Hay Bales

This is another scene photographed from my car on a trip through the Midwest.  There are some things I like a lot about it --- the shape and tones of the trees on the horizon, for example, and the three-dimensional effect of the hay bales.  In other ways it fell short of my aspirations.  For example, it incongruously conveys an overcast or waning day (through the dark, grayish sky), as well a bright day (through the light on the top of the hay bales).  I have seen days like this, but I'm not sure it is convincing in a painting.  So I have been wanting to paint the sky lighter.   (No. 18, 8x8", on Raymar panel, Sept. 10, 2012)
