Galveston Sidewalk View

This was a bit of a departure from previous efforts because it presented the new challenge of depicting sunlight and shade on pavement as well as repeated architectural vertical lines.  What pleased me about the result is that it is a little looser and less fussy than my efforts usually are.  This is what I would like to be able to do more often --- something bright, colorful, painterly and interpretive --- but my natural inclination is to do more detailed depictions like the Star Drug painting below.  I like both, but I know I can do the Star Drug approach if I'm patient, whereas the more painterly approach is a skill that I am not confident of being able to do consistently.  (No. 72, 6x6", on Gessobord, Nov. 7, 2012)
